Hot on the heels of the debunked TomTom rumors, industrial design firm Part Foundry has released information on their upcoming iPhone GPS adapter. Dubbed the LocoGPS, Part Foundry will begin shipping the GPS adapter sometime in February for $89.

The downside? Currently it requires a jailbroken iPhone and it’s functionality is limited to sending latitude/longitude coordinates to Google Maps. No advanced software functionality such as audible driving directions, etc.

The upside? It is the only GPS device currently announced for the iPhone. The software will be open source and community driven. The device will also be designed to be stored on your keychain when not in use.

With no built in GPS functionality, I am quite surprised and disappointed Apple did not have a GPS attachment ready as part of the initial iPhone launch. Hopefully Apple, Garmin or Magellan will come out with some iPhone GPS goodness at Macworld next month.
